We first saw this unusual old family quilt being used as part of a window display at a local bookstore. The owner graciously gave us permission to sketch and measure the original in order to preserve the design. The combination of machine piecing, foundation piecing, and freezer paper appliqué techniques make this quilt suitable for advanced intermediate to experienced quilters. The original quilt is 3 blocks wide by 3 blocks long with the border at top and bottom only. We have expanded our version to make it 3 blocks wide by 4 long with borders all around, making it large enough for a full size bed with plenty of length for a pillow tuck.

  • Pattern includes complete instructions with yardage requirements, paper foundation piecing and appliqué pattern pieces suitable for copying, and quilting motifs based on the original quilt to trace onto the finished blocks.
